遮盖方法通常是用较强的芳香气味,或用其它令人愉快的气味与臭气混合,以遮盖臭气或改变其性质,使臭气能被接受,或使用一种可以消除或消除恶臭的添加剂,以减少恶臭。不同个体对遮蔽方法的感觉程度不同,遮蔽效果也不同。稀释性和扩散性是指将有臭味的气体从烟囱排到高空,或用无臭空气稀释,以确保烟囱下风向和附近的人不受臭气来源的干扰,也不会影响人们的日常生活。臭味气体通过烟囱排出,烟囱高度必须根据当地气象条件适当设计,以确保在有人工作和生活的地方臭味物质浓度不超过其阈值浓度。若烟囱排出所含恶臭气体,无法保证下风向地面的最大浓度低于临界浓度,则可考虑掺入洁净空气适当稀释后排出。

生物学方法

生物学方法就是利用微生物的新陈代谢作用,使气体通过生物处理设备,使其在水中溶解,进而被微生物降解。它的本质就是利用微生物的生命活动,把气流中产生气味的物质转化为无味的简单物质。在此阶段,主要采用生物过滤、生物滴滤和生物洗涤等方法。在处理尾气时,除气量小,浓度大,易溶,生物代谢率低的尾气时,宜采用生物过滤床;在处理尾气量大,浓度低的尾气时,宜采用生物滴滤床;在处理负荷大,污染物被降解后会产生酸性物质时,宜采用生物滴滤床。
