Textile wastewater is mainly wastewater containing natural impurities, fats, and organic matter such as starch, etc., produced during the process of raw material steaming, rinsing, bleaching, and sizing. Printing and dyeing wastewater is produced in multiple processes such as washing, dyeing, printing, sizing, etc. It contains a large number of dyes, starch, cellulose, lignin, detergents and other organic substances, as well as alkali, sulfide, various types of salts and other inorganic substances, which are highly polluting. Wastewater is characterised by high concentration of organic matter, complex composition, deep and variable chromaticity, large changes in pH, large changes in water quantity and quality, and is difficult to treat industrial wastewater.

Paper industry is one of the pillar industries of the country, but also one of the more polluting industries. China's paper industry mostly use grass straw, wood pulp, etc. as raw materials for paper making. Pulp and paper production generally has a pulp, washing, bleaching, papermaking process. Pulping in the paper industry has alkali pulping, chemical and mechanical pulping and mechanical pulping. Its wastewater according to different pulping methods, different raw materials, different pulp yield, different varieties of paper and chemical recovery, the occurrence of pollutants and emissions are very different, but basically contain a large number of suspended solids and BOD, COD and some toxic substances, usually still use a combination of physical and biological methods for treatment.
